Bangladesh HP batting coach Wasim Jaffer said on Wednesday that he is disappointed to see Soumya Sarkar returning to his old game plan during their campaign in the World Cup.

Soumya, who was going through a lean patch in the Dhaka Premier League ahead of World Cup and the tri-nations in Ireland and to an extent that it put his place in danger for the showpiece event.

During the point of time, Jaffer helped the left-handed opener as he was sharing the same dressing room in the DPL representing Abahani Limited.

Soumya looked to have got rid himself of his lean patch, and in some style too as he smashed a hundred against Legends of Rupganj and followed that up with an even more brutal double hundred against Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club to signal his return to form.

In the following series against Ireland, Soumya looked to be in superlative form scoring 73,54 and 66 runs but he hardly failed to live up to reputation in the World Cup, scoring 166 runs with an average of 20.75.

Soumya insisted that Jaffer had a big role behind his transformation in the DPL and insisted that he got the reward of following the instruction provided by the veteran opener, who played 31 Tests (five hundred and 11 fifties) and two ODIs for India, apart from scoring nearly 40000 runs in first-class cricket.

According to Jaffer, who is recently appointed by BCB as their game development batting consistent, he was displeased as Soumya looked to be moving away from the plan that looked was working for him.

‘’Yes, yes I have seen his batting. I was little disappointed. Cause the things that I have spoken to him before that he hasn’t followed that. He has fallen back to his own game. That is a bit surprising because when I saw him here, he was playing the way I had told him. But suddenly he has gone back to his old game. So, I haven’t got a chance to speak to him. So, when I see him then, obviously I will speak to him,’’ Jaffer told reporters at the academy premises on Wednesday.

‘’It is a few technical things. And obviously, it’s a mental thing also. You can’t say every time that it’s a technical thing cause in international cricket its more mental than technical. So, whenever I get a chance to work with him or even other players then I can share what I think,’’ he said adding that they need to promote such stroke making players instead of putting any bar on his stroke play.

‘’He is a very free-flowing player. And you need to promote him or encourage him to play like that you know. Because that’s his game. You don’t want to discourage a player who scores very quickly. But he just needs to understand in what flow and in what time he needs to play certain shots,’’ he concluded.
