Former Bangladesh batsman Shahriar Nafees doesn’t think that Shakib Al Hasan can be a role model for the youngsters despite his brilliant achievements in his career.
Shakib has earned lot in his illustrious career that took him to the zenith but Shahiar is not convinced that he is a cricketer that the youngster should follow.
The ace all-rounder so far scored 476 runs in this World Cup along with taking 10 wickets with cherry to emerge as the most influential cricketers in the cricket’s biggest carnival in this year.
He also opened two new chapters in the World Cup history. The Bangladesh talisman became the only player in the World Cup history with 1000 runs and 30 wickets under his belt and at the same time he is the first person to have 400+ runs and 10+ wickets in the same edition of World Cup.
Shahriar however doesn’t differ with the caliber Shakib Al Hasan possesses but still he argues whether the youngster should follow him. And he has his own version to justify the matter.
“Shakib as a player, may not be an ideal player as we see traditionally or in the text book because Shakib doesn’t practice that much,” Shahriar said.
Shahriar and Shakib played alongside each other in 2007 World Cup. When Shakib came into the side, Shahriar was the toast of the country because of his consistent performance.

The opener who is famous for his fluent 138 ball-127run knock in a Test against the then all conquering Australia in 2006 had the first-hand experience to practice and train with Shakib in the net or gym.
From what he has seen that, Shakib usually follows some method in practice, which shouldn’t be termed a good enough practice that a player should do.
“Shakib doesn’t practice that much. He spends less time in the gym or runs less in the field,” added Shahriar.
But still Shakib has been the top player of the world for long and that attributes down to his execution, remarked Shahriar.
“But he has the ability to apply 100 percent in the field that brings huge success for the team and himself,” he said.
Shahriar believes everyone has his own style and the method to be successful, which couldn’t successfully applied in others case.
Nonetheless in general way, Shahriar thinks the youngsters should follow the likes of Mushfiqur Rahim and Tamim Iqbal who reamin the most hard-working players in Bangladesh team.
“If a player wants to follow someone he should follow Tamim and Mushfiq. Because they practice a lot in the nets, they run a lot and also do gym a lot,” Concluded Shahriar.
Tamim and Mushfiq raised their game to another level through training and hard-work.
