Bangladesh ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan was pleased to contribute in team’s victory and by doing so reaching the personal milestone that saw him quickest to reach a rare double of 5000 runs and 250 wickets. He is the fifth man to get to the feat as he needed just one wicket before the game against South Africa. He duly did dismissing Aiden Markram who gradually posing Bangladesh a danger.
However Bangladesh beat South Africa by 21 runs to start the World Cup in emphatic fashion after posting their record 330-6. Shakib was key in such hefty total, hitting a 84 ball-75 runs knock.

“It was extremely satisfying from personal point. I could contribute for the team while also managed to touch some personal milestone. The partnership between me and Mushfiqur bhai was important to lay down the platform for our batsmen. The start was important and we could do that,” Shakib said at The Oval on Sunday.
“Natuarally it’s a special day for me. I think it is special day for Bangladesh team as well. It was very important for us that we start in this manner in the beginning of the World Cup that is so challenging. In that sense it is very special.”
“It was extremely satisfying, basically we had the belief. We need to perform in the middle and everyone was eager to do it. We are lucky that our plan worked. I think the faith helped us to execute our plans in the middle.”
After beating South Africa, focus will be on Bangladesh naturally and Shakib said they need to stay calm to control their excitement.
“It is just one match and still there is eight more matches and we have to face tough challenges ahead. Every team will play to their best after this result and so we need to prepare accordingly. Other teams will be very cautious about us. This can be good as they will have some kind of a pressure. But at the same time earlier we could do our things without being in the spotlight but now that won’t be the case as the focus will be on us. We need to do well despite all the focus,” the ace all-rounder remarked.
