Bangladesh bowling coach Courtney Walsh seemed to have excited with the wicket of The Oval, even though he didn’t reveal exactly how it would favour Bangladesh.

He said the wicket would contain a bit of pace and a bit of spin and also would be four days old when Bangladesh would take on South Africa. It suggested that the coach predicted almost a Bangladesh-type wicket and if so, the Tigers could savour it.

“It’s a wicket that we know ,  we have played on that type of wickets as they played yesterday. So, it could be very good for us,” Walsh said.

“At the Oval you normally get good cricket wickets and we are expecting good sporting stuff. So, we are expecting a very good game,  the wicket should play very good. It might help both of the departments, in terms of bowling, it should have a bit spin and a bit of pace.  We saw how it played yesterday so we know how it could play on Sunday.  Its couple of days away and it’s an used wicket so we have to take that into consideration.  We have to assess that as early as possible.  It’s going to be a four day old wicket,  so it’s not gonna play as same as the previous match, we have to reassess that , but it’s still looking like a very good wicket.”

Bangladesh however have injury concern as some players are carrying niggles while Tamim Iqbal was caught with fresh injury, much to the frustration of the fans. But Walsh looked to be unfazed it, saying there are enough times to get the players fit.

“The good thing is that we have time on our side, we don’t have any match till Sunday,  so we have today and tomorrow to reassess Saifuddin and others,” he said.

“They are on physio care and today is a complete day off so that they recover,  then we reassess the guys with physio tomorrow.  Mash has got some niggles as well and he is also not doing much today, tomorrow we reassess him.  Fizz is ok in a sense that  he is stiff but he is able to bowl a bit. He had a bowling session today, and we will see how he pulls up if he pulls up ok then he can bowl again tomorrow but if there is a concern  so we have to make sure that the work load is managed and he is ok for the game. The most important thing is that everybody stays fit for Sunday.”
