Bangladesh’s opener Liton Kumar Das said on Thursday that he is ready to change his mentality and bat down the order if that suits the purpose of the team in the ongoing World Cup.

Liton scored a fifty against Ireland before being dropped from the tri-nation final as Soumya returned back to partner at the top and played a match winning knock during the chase.

In the only warm-up match against India he provided evidence that he is on song by scoring a half-century despite struggling initially and certainly it seemed to be enough to give the team management some kind of selection dilemma ahead of their opening game.

However, this time round Tamim Iqbal was rested due to his niggles that paved way for Liton and despite capitalizing it he is unsure for a spot at the top or even at the playing XI.

It is unlikely that team management would change the opening combination of Tamim and Soumya while the other spot for Liton could be number three but whether they will include him at that position remains to be seen as Shakib al Hasan had been prepared for that slot for quite some time now.

Liton looked prepared to take everything on his stride and revealed that he will try to learn how to bat elsewhere leaving his favoured opening slot if that seems to be the order of the day.

‘’So far I have been opening innings. Now I will have to grow this mentality [to play down the order] in practice session so that I am prepared to bat anywhere,’’ Liton told reporters at the team hotel at the team hotel as Bangladesh opted to rest on Thursday.

‘’It is not that only three cricketers are looking for a spot all the 15 members are looking for their place in the playing XI. But you cannot play more than 11 cricketers so naturally few will be warming the bench,’’ he said

‘’ All I can say is that I will wait for my opportunity and try to utilize it to the best of my ability when it comes my way,’’ he said.

Liton said that they are not losing their sleep thinking about wickets

‘’I believe that one should prepare according to the pitch and should not assume how the wickets are going to behave. It can happen that you are assuming that there will be lot of swing but at the end find out there is no swing at all,’’ he said adding that they are confident of scoring over 300 plus in the World Cup.

‘’In the last couple of matches, we have scored nearly 300 runs in every match. I don’t think it matters [300 plus] too much now,’’ said Liton.

‘’If we are chasing more than 300 runs, we will go in to bat with the mentality to chase it down and if we setting the target then we will try to set a sizable total,’’ said Liton.

‘’We are well adjusted with the weather of England right now. At the initial stage of the tour in Ireland, we had to face severe cold but that is not the case here,’’ he said.

Liton added that they are fully aware that South African will come out hard against them in their opening game while added that he does not think they will come up against them with Imran Tahir opening their bowling.

‘’Nothing will be easy. South African bowling attack is really adept in these conditions and it will be challenging affair but it doesn’t mean that we are not capable of beating of South Africa. If we play well on the day we will win,’’ said Liton.

‘’ I don’t think they will open with spin bowling against us and Iof South Africa decide to start off with spin against us, we will be ready to tackle them,’’ he said.

‘’It’s not like Bangladesh are not used to facing spin,’’ he said when attention was drawn regarding South African ploy of introducing Tahir as a opening bowler.
