West Indies big-hitter Andre Russell is not a big fan of paper, magazines and social media, considering the habit has a negative impact on players’ career.
When a player performs well papers can lift a player up to the very top and when someone performs poorly they bring them down to the bottom. So, he tries to stay away from newspapers and channels. Even he doesn’t even watch matches on TV with commentary.

“When I play cricket, I don’t like to read newspapers. I don’t even watch matches. When a match goes on the TV, I turn down the volume, I don’t wanna hear the commentaries too. I don’t want to read the news because it’s all negative. Even when I score a century I don’t read newspapers. I don’t wanna hear what they have to say about me.”
“When I was young, I went on to buy newspapers when I scored a fifty or took five wickets, I wanted to see what they are writing about me. When performance go down and papers write negative things about you, it makes you think that you are not a good player. I want to stay away from this as much as possible. Fans send many links on the social media, they praise me but I don’t pay any heed to this. Because I want to stay modest.” Russell said.
Russell played all around the world. He has been in the front page of countless newspapers. But when he realized its negative impact then he stayed away from this.
In this World Cup Andre Russell is one of the main pillars of this West Indies side. In the warm up match he scored an incredible half century. He was in superb form in the IPL too. But the headlines in the newspaper don’t attract him anymore.
