Bangladesh’s performance in the powerplays has been pretty ordinary with both in bowling and batting, forcing them to be languishing at the second to bottom in both departments in the table.
In quick study in Bangladesh’s powerplay stat suggested that they are at number eight position in the list of top batting teams in the powerplays, scoring runs at a rate of 4.70 runs per over in the first 10 overs.
What is very surprising given the fact that Bangladesh are used to deploy their best and hard-hitting batsmen at the top like Tamim Iqbal, Soumya Sarkar, Liton Das. But as they became more cautious about not giving up their wickets at the outset of the innings, careful batting up front is believed to be a reason behind this bottom half ranking of Bangladesh.

England and New Zealand are at the top of the list of powerplay batting teams. England scored at 5.79 runs per over in the powerplays and New Zealand are at the second position with 5.41 run rate during the fielding restrictions.
Sri Lanka’s batting line up may struggle in the recent time but they are at the number three position with 5.39 run rate in the first 10 overs. Australia, South Africa , India and West Indies are in the 4th.5th,6th and 7th position respectively. All of teams run rate hover around 5 in the first 10 overs. Pakistan and Afghanistan are at the bottom of the list with 4.69 and 4.15 run rate respectively.
So it is shown that Bangladesh are slightly better than Pakistan and Afghanistan as far as the exploit of batting powerplay is concerned.
Quinton de Kock and Jason Roy are at the top of the batsmen in the power plays. And no Bangladeshi top order batsman are in the list of highest run getters in the power plays suggested how vulnerable the Bangladeshi players are to exploit powerplay advantage.
Bangladesh are also vulnerable in exploiting the bowling powerplay also, the stat proved. They currently are in the ninth position with an average of 37.49 in the powerplays. Only West Indies are below Bangladesh in this list as they sit on the 10th position with 43.82 average rate.
New Zealand are at the top with an average rate of 29.45 and Afghanistan are at the second position. Although Afghanistan have a lower average rate of 26.43, they fall behind because of playing fewer matches. South Africa, England, Sri Lanka , Australia and Pakistan are on the 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th,7th and 8th position respectively on the list of top bowling side in the powerplays.
Trent Boult and Kagiso Rabada are at the top of the bowling chart in the powerplays and here once again Bangladesh has no representative in the top 10. But Bangladesh’s captain Masrafe Bin Mortaza is at the 13th position in the powerplay bowlers ranking.
