The case study of Bangladesh’s batting and bowling in death overs showed some stark difference. While in batting they looked vulnerable, the bowling remained top class, vastly due to the duo of Shakib Al Hasan and Mustafizur Rahman.
Death over batting however has always been a concern for Bangladesh as it caused their defeat more often than not. Bangladesh got some excellent batters at top of the order and middle order but in lower down the order, they haven’t had batsmen with firepower who could pace the innings towards the death.

England is on the top of death over batting but they are occupying number 8 position in the death over bowling.
There is a high possibility that most of the matches in this World Cup will depend on the last 10 overs. Most of teams contain their wickets in the middle overs to get advantage at the last 10 overs. For this, run rate in the last 10 overs is increasing gradually in last few years. Getting 12-13 runs per over is very much possible now in the last 10 overs. On the other hand, bowlers also feel pressure to contain the run rates in these last overs. Because at the end of the day the bowlers that bowled well in the death overs used to laugh the last laugh.
Bangladesh is among the top three in death over bowling. Afghanistan is on the top position, India is on the second and Bangladesh is on third position. After 2015 Bangladesh have given 6.99 runs per over in the last 10 overs. India and Afghanistan have given 6.86 and 6.26 runs respectively. Shakib Al Hasan and Mustafizur Rahman is among the list of top death bowlers. Shakib has an economy rate of 6.25 and Mustafiz bowls at an economy rate of 5.91 in the death overs.
After Bangladesh there is South Africa,Australia,Pakistan,New Zealand and England. They all have given 7 to 7.5 runs in the death overs. Sri Lanka and West Indies are at the bottom, their run rate went past 8 in the last four years.
