Australia’s two times World Cup winning captain Ricky Pointing believes Jos Buttler is the player to watch for England in this World Cup. His ability to score all around the ground makes him one of the fiercest batsmen in the World. Ponting knows a lot about Jos Buttler as a former Coach of Mumbai Indians
The Aussie great expressed his knowledge about him in a recent interview.
“I have watched him developed over the last two or three years, I had a chance to coach him in the Mumbai Indians for 3 or 4 seasons when he started to make his mark in the ODI cricket. What he has done in the last 2 or 3 years in the ODI and T20 matches have been absolutely amazing. His middle order batting is out this world, he scores 360 degrees all around the ground. He hits the ball a long way as well. “
Pointing believes England’s long batting order is the reason behind their recent success. England’s formidable batting in recent matches makes them one of the most favorites to lift the World Cup this year.
“I believe England’s strength in the World cricket is that how deep they do bat. That allows their top order to play with more freedom than the other teams. Players like Buttler,Stokes and Moin Ali coming in number 7, 8 or 9 position allow their top order to go really hard up front. I think they are really confident and had great depth in their squad.”
This type of praise from Ponting will certainly motivate his former disciple Jos Buttler. But Ponting certainly would not want his former student to fire up against his Australian side.
