Bangladesh ODI skipper Mashrafe Bin Mortaza showed his gratitude towards the country’s  Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for not putting any burden on their shoulder when the people kept them in relentless pressure to win a trophy.

Bangladesh will take on West Indies in the tri-nation final to remove the choker tag as they failed to clinch a trophy despite reaching the last stage on six occasions earlier.

Bangladesh played their first final in 2009 in a tri nation series between Sri-Lanka and Zimbabwe. Bangladesh’s second heartbreak was against Pakistan in the 2012 Asia Cup.

Four years later Bangladesh lost to India in Asia Cup Twenty20 final while in 2018 they lost final on three occasions.

First, they lost the tri-nation series final against Sri-Lanka in January, Zimbabwe and after that they lost another final against India in the Nidahas Trophy. Bangladesh lost the Asia Cup final in 2018 that forced them to earn the choker tag.

“Honorable prime minister has congratulated us. She told us to play without any tension. There is pressure of being champion, She phoned us like this many times before. And always speaks like this. She never imposed pressure to us that we have to be champions,’’ Mashrafee told reporters ahead of the final against West Indies at Dublin.

‘’Wherever I go, everyone tells me to win trophy. But only our prime minister is the only one who never said anything like this,’’ he said.

‘’Before the Asia Cup final she told us that, listen people don’t know much about the game, me also,’’ he said.

‘’But I know one thing that going in to the final is a big achievement. It’s not like that you must win, I am always happy if you only try. When your prime minister thinks like this, it gives a lot of inspiration,’’ he concluded.
