Bangladesh opener Soumya Sarkar said that understanding each other helped him develop a formidable partnership with Tamim Iqbal in their tri-nation series opener against West Indies.

Bangladesh would be eagerly looking forward to get over their opening headache that had been following them for quite some time now.

Tamim had five different opening partners in ODIs since 2015 as team management opted for Soumya, Liton Kumar Das, Imrul Kayes, Anamul Haque and Mohammad Mithun during the time frame.

These changes only indicates the vulnerability of Bangladesh opening pair while the tourist had chosen Soumya and Liton to accompany Tamim at the top in the upcoming ICC World Cup.

Both Soumya and Liton are known for possessing a huge amount of talent but at the same time they remained quite inconsistent though the former looked to be carrying the good domestic form in Ireland too.

Soumya regained some kind of form by hitting the maiden List A double hundred and the way he batted only proved the amount of confidence he was carrying while taking on the West Indian bowlers in the tri-nation.

Despite watching his illustrious partner struggling for most part of his inning in the initial phase against West Indies before getting into his own groove to notch up his 45 th ODI half-century it hardly looked to be troubling Soumya who was fluent from the very beginning with his range of strokes.

“At one point we thought we would have to chase 300 runs. Later we caught the pace of the game. We limited them at 260 runs,’’ Soumya told reporters at Dublin.

‘’After that our target was to bat simple, wicket was not easy to bat on. Playing Shots were difficult. Back of the length balls were easy to play but full length balls were tough,’’ he said.

‘’Our plan was to build up partnership as that would help us get hold of the game and that’s what happened in the end,’’ he said adding that he and Tamim were talking to each other and it helped them to put off the pressure from

‘’It didn’t happen that as Tamim vai wasn’t scoring so, we got stuck. There was no pressure. He told me “play your normal game. At one point match will be on our hand. I also told him that “your game is ok. If one over goes well you will be able to cover off the runs.” Said Soumya.

‘’We were talking about these actually. We were telling ourselves that “We won’t push anything” he added.

Soumya added that this victory would make then confident ahead of the series.

“Off course, victory always makes everyone confident. We all are confident now. And we won’t be able to change the condition. We are not thinking about that, we are trying to move forward by giving everything we have,’’ concluded Soumya.
