Bangladesh skipper Mashrafee bin Murtaza said that he is relieved to start on the winning note after their debacle in the practice match in the ongoing tri-nation.

Bangladesh began their tri-nation campaign on the perfect note as they earned an eight wicket win over West Indies at Clontarf Cricket Club in Dublin on Tuesday.

Bangladesh were defeated by 88 runs in the only warm-up match that raised quite a few eyebrows but they put up a clinical show to open their account in the tri-nation, known to be the last preparing platform ahead of the World Cup.

‘’Obviously [ relieved] starting is always important,’’ Mashrafee said in the post match presenstation.

‘’I think we have started well after losing the practice match, I think the boys will also be prepared for the next matches,’’ he said adding that he was pleased with the way bowlers handled the death overs.

The Caribbean side to 205-3 in 41st over but Mashrafee took three quick wickets in his last spell to bring Bangladesh back in the contest and he was complimented well by the other bowlers as well to restrict the opponent under a reachable total.

‘’ I think as far as the bowling is concern just before the 40th over we started bowling well, we took wickets in that part that’s why they didn’t put enough runs on the board,’’ said Mashrafee praising the effort of batsmen as well.

Opener Tamim Iqbal (80), Soumya Sarkar (73) and Sakib al Hasan ( 61 not out) all struck half-centuries as Bangladesh comfortably reached 264-2 n 45 overs after restricting West Indies to 261-9.

Tamim and Soumya put up a record 144-run opening stand, highest against West Indies in opening stand to make a solid foundation in the chase before Tamim and Sakib added 52 runs for second wicket to take them close to the victory.

Mushfiq made quick-fire unbeaten 32 off 25 balls as Bangladesh reached their target without any serious hiccup.

‘’I guess it was good wicket to bat on, specially Tamim and Soumya started so well then we ended up with Shakib and Mushi,’’ said Mashrafee adding they cannot be complacent.

‘‘Still the tournament is open. We have to play well and play hard you know to get into the final. So, we are looking forward to it,’’ he said.
