Bangladesh ODI skipper Mashrafe Mortaza said on Saturday that the Tigers are eyeing to end the year on a winning note as they head for a three-match series ODIs series against West Indies.

Bangladesh managed to win 11 out of the 17 ODIs they played in 2018, losing six ODIs that include the defeat against India in the Asia Cup final where they have displayed some superb brand of cricket apart from with an injury-struck team.

“This year our percentage of winning is very good apart from the two losses in the final. Obviously if we could win a final that would have been better specially the Asia Cup. I think it would be great if we can end the year on a winning note. There will be lot of challenges from the beginning of next year so doing well at the end of the year will be good for us,” Mashrafe told reporters ahead of the series against Windies.

“If we do well in every department there is a chance for us. Especially how the wicket will behave during batting will determine a lot of things. If it helps during the batting it will challenge for the bowlers. Basically judging the wicket will be very important. More so as the last two games are at Mirpur initially judging the wicket will be important.”

Bangladesh were at the winning end when they last faced West Indies in an ODI series earlier this year. However, Mashrafe is not thinking too far about the outcome of this series and is just concentrating on the opening game.

“Still the ODIs have not started so there is no point thinking about clean sweep. But the first match is important so let’s see what happens. In this format one or two players can change the game and they do have few of them with that ability to destroy an opponent.

“We must keep that in our mind. So there is no way you can say what will happen in three matches. But as the format gets shorter they become more dangerous so it is better to keep the opening game in focus,” he said.
