Tamim differs with Mahmudullah

Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal said on Monday that he differs with skipper Mahmudullah’s opinion as far as the team’s future in Test cricket is concerned. The acting Test-side captain recently lambasted his teammates for their repeated failures in the longest format of international cricket.
The Tigers were embarrassed by Zimbabwe in the ongoing two-match series as they were humiliated by 151 runs in the opening Test that marked their fourth successive loss and eighth successive below-200 innings-total in the format.
After the game, Mahmudullah said that if they continue play like this there is no point playing Test cricket and that apparently irked some of his teammates with Tamim being the first one to admit it openly.
The performance in the first Test was more disappointing considering as they were not playing on surface that can be termed unplayable and neither did their opponent Zimbabwe came up with any magic balls on a wicket that required the batsmen to spend time in the middle to score runs.
However, the hosts started dropping like ninepins and it appeared more due to their batsmen failure to take the required responsibility to resist their downfall and in the process avoid the embarrassment.
“I don’t agree with him,” Tamim told reporters at academy premises. “But it is also true that we never expected to be beaten by Zimbabwe. People get shocked in these situations. They get disappointed and start to blame each other.”
“Riyad bhai making that comment is probably one of those things. It probably came from frustration. He wanted things to be different as a captain. We all know how much the players are working to get better in Tests. But when we don’t get results, it is sometimes quite frustrating. We will play better and bounce back against this and other opponent. I believe we are strong enough to take it positively and look forward,” he said.
