Playing three spinners felt like the right choice: Mahmudullah

Bangladesh skipper Mahmudullah said on Tuesday that he still backs his decision to go with one pace bowler as the wicket was dry.
The decision of playing one pacer received huge criticism as Zimbabwe’s pace bowling duo wrecked through the Tigers’ top-order in the first innings from which the hosts could not recover as the game proceeded.
“The pitch was dry. So playing three spinners here seemed to be the right decision to me and the team management,” Mahmudullah told reporters.

“You can’t blame the wicket. You can’t complain about the bowlers either. They have performed consistently. Ultimately, it’s on us batsmen, about how we are scoring. If the batsmen aren’t scoring well, there is no point,” he said.
Mahmudullah is looking forward to mounting a comeback in the next match. He believes that Bangladesh will soon put an end to their dismal run in the format.
“On behalf of the players, I can say that we will not take anything lightly. We can come back strongly from here. I think one innings is enough for that.
“It's hard to accept the defeat as a captain and as a player. The supporters come to watch us play well. We could not perform and we're sorry for that.
“We always hope that they will keep supporting us the same way. Such time has come before in Bangladesh's cricket, but we turned around. Hopefully, we will turn around again,” said Mahmudullah.
“We are playing for the Bangladesh team and of course, we have to give something back to Bangladesh cricket,” he added.
