Bangladesh skipper Mahmudullah believes that playing too many shots is hurting them badly in Test cricket.

After suffering a 151-runs defeat against Zimbabwe questions were bound to be raised about the Bangladesh Test side as they have not won any of their last eight matches, four of which have been played at home. The Tigers’ failure is largely due to their batsmen, who have not crossed the 200-run mark in eight successive innings.

Bangladesh, who resumed the day at 26-0, started steadily with the openers Liton Das and Imrul Kayes adding 30 more runs to their score from the previous day. But once the partnership was broken, it opened the floodgates for plenty more and the home side could not resist the slide as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals.

It was more disappointing considering as they were not playing on a surface that can be termed unplayable and neither did their opponent Zimbabwe came up with any magic balls on a wicket that required the batsmen to spend time in the middle to score runs.

However, the hosts started dropping like ninepins and it appeared more due to their batsmen failure to take the required responsibility to resist their downfall and in the process avoid the embarrassment.

“Perhaps we are playing too many strokes. Maybe we are doing it emotionally but we need to restrict it. We need to be choosier and we need to plan how to face different bowlers,” said Mahmudullah.

“We are unable to create even small partnerships because we are failing from top to bottom. Perhaps we had some lame dismissals and that cannot be accepted in Test cricket.
