Playing in just his third Test, Abu Jayed Rahi had to spearhead Bangladesh’s pace attack against Zimbabwe as Mustafizur Rahman is currently nursing an elbow injury and no other pace-bowling option except for batting all-rounder Ariful Haque was named in the team.

Jayed also earned his maiden Test wicket by trapping Hamilton Masakadza lbw after the batsman picked up his half-century, while the spin-bowling attack scalped the other four wickets on the first day of the match.

Sean Williams negated Bangladesh’s the spin threat well before getting out for 88 runs and kept the opponents from doing more damage.

However, Jayed is confident that they need just one more wicket to dismantle Zimbabwe on the second day, as it would expose the tailenders before Bangladesh’s bowling attack. The pacer plans to wrap up the Zimbabwean innings under 320 runs and have a healthy lead over the visitors as he thinks that the pitch will create difficulty for Zimbabwe to bat well in their second innings.

“There haven’t been any such discussions. But we have set a goal of getting them all-out under 320 runs. This wicket will offer more turn with time. If we can get a lead, they won’t be able to score much in the second innings,” Rahi told reporters.

“They need to lose just one wicket for their tailenders to come. Our goal will be to take that wicket, then we can bundle them out within 320,” he said.
