Junior Tigers stay alive in the Asia Cup

Bangladesh U19 team have kept their hopes alive in the ACC Under-19 Asia Cup by beating Pakistan U19 team in their second group match at Chittagong, on Monday (October 1).


Winning the toss, Bangladesh opted to bowl first. Their clinical bowling display saw the Pakistan team getting bundled out for a paltry 187-run total.


Only Waqar Ahmed and Saim Ayub were able to offer some respite to the batting side by scoring 67 and 49 runs, respectively.


Bangladesh’s promising leg-spinner Rishad Ahmed topped the wicket-taking charts for his side by taking three scalps. Shoriful Islam also got two wickets two his name, while Mrittunjoy Chowdhury, Avishek Das, and Rakibul Hasan bagged one wicket each.

Bangladesh got two fine fifties at their disposal while chasing as Prantik Nawroz Nabil posted 58 runs before returning to the pavilion and Shamim Hossain retired hurt on 65 runs. These two batsmen got half the job done for the side. However, the rest of batters failed to make their mark but the team finally managed to crawl their way to a 3-wicket victory with 16 balls to spare.


The junior Tigers lost their first group match to Sri Lanka U19 side and will take on Hong Kong U19 team tomorrow (October 2). On the other hand, Pakistan U19 team will face the group-toppers, Sri Lanka U19, on the same day.
