Indian captain Virat Kohli was supposed to play county cricket for Surrey before India’s tour of England, but this move did not go through.

Due to his consistent failure in the 2014 Test Series at England, Kohli was keen to endure a county stint in order to boost up his preparations for this time around.

However, owing to an injury, Kohli had to cut short his commitments and preferred staying in India before traveling together with the entire squad.

It wouldn’t be wrong to say that the fans were keen to witness the Indian captain play in England’s domestic league, and hence Surrey’s President Alec Stewart has promised that he would ensure that Kohli comes back to play in the county circuit.

Speaking on Kohli’s prospects of playing county cricket, Stewart said, “Never say never. I am all for having world-class players. And he is the best player in the world. But again, itineraries – India’s itinerary, his own itinerary – may or may not allow. We will certainly take a look at it if it is possible. We understood the reasons. When a player is injured it is right that they give themselves time to get fit before they play for their national side.”

Kohli’s tenacious knock at Edgbaston drew praise from all quarters, and Stewart had some remarks regarding that innings too. Stewart reportedly remarked, “He knew he was going to play in England against the moving ball, batting outside of his crease, playing the ball later. All these sorts of things, the great players can do. I enjoyed watching him. It was a real challenge him taking on James Anderson and Stuart Broad and the rest. He won that one at Edgbaston and England will come at him again in this game, they would have got some options for him.”
