Darren Lehmann to return to international cricket

Former Australia coach Darren Lehmann is set to return to international cricket in a new role, he announced on Wednesday (August 1). The 48-year-old has penned a deal that will see him take up the role of an expert commentator for Macquarie Sports Radio this summer.
“I'm excited to be joining Macquarie Radio's Summer of Cricket and can't wait to get started,” Lehmann said. “It's a great team and we're going to have a lot of fun. It's an opportunity for me to share an insight into how the Australian team runs and the intricacies of each player.
“I love the game I played and coached and want to see it continue to grow. I love the players; always have and always will. Go Aussies!”

Lehmann stepped down as the Aussie head coach in the wake of the Newlands ball-tampering scandal, in March. Since then, he has been working with Australia’s future stars, under National Performance Program head coach Troy Cooley. His current role at the Bupa National Cricket Centre in Brisbane will end in October this year.
Macquarie Sports Radio is one of three broadcasters that agreed six-year radio rights deals with Cricket Australia, in June. They will be covering men’s and women’s international cricket as well as Big Bash League [BBL] matches in Australia.
Lehmann has previously taken up the punditry role for Sky Sports during the Ashes in 2005. In BBL 2016-17, the former Australia cricketer served as a commentator for Network 10.
