Zimbabwe’s tour of Bangladesh will witness the first Test match to be played in Bangladesh’s Sylhet International Cricket Stadium. The 14000-seater stadium in north-eastern Bangladesh will accordingly become the nation’s eighth Test venue. However, only five of these stadiums are active currently.

Zimbabwe’s tour consists of a three-match ODI series succeeded by a two-match Test series too. The ODIs will be played in Dhaka and Chittagong. However, the first Test match will take place at the Sylhet Stadium. Both teams will then return to Dhaka for the second and final Test.

The Sylhet stadium had gone through an expansion in 2013, and even hosted some matches of the 2014 World T20. Zimbabwe and Ireland featured in the opening match of this stadium, and coincidentally, Zimbabwe would now play in the first Test to take place in this venue too.

The bilateral series between Zimbabwe and Bangladesh was originally supposed to be played in February 2019. However, they board had to reschedule dates in order to accommodate the Bangladesh Premier League in January, because of the general elections.

This series might not hold much relevance, as Zimbabwe’s team has been astonishingly poor and insipid in recent times.

However, there is bound to be a certain bout of enthusiasm and excitement amongst the Bangladeshi supporters, considering the fact that a new Test venue would be embarked upon in this series.
