Worcestershire sign Proteas bowler as Travis Head replacement

Wayne Parnell

English county side Worcestershire have roped in South Africa bowler Wayne Parnell as an overseas player for the remainder of the T20 Blast tournament. He will be replacing Australia batsman Travis Head, who has been named in the Australia A squad ahead of its India tour in August.
Parnell has previously played for Kent and Sussex as an overseas player. He is likely to be available for the last six Vitality Blast North Group matches and the knockout games for Worcestershire.
Worcestershire have won four of their five clashes in the North Group so far. They are the second-ranked side in the group with Lancashire leading the points table.

Worcestershire head coach Kevin Sharp said: “With the injuries, we’ve had in the bowling department, and Travis leaving earlier than we anticipated, we wanted to make sure we had the resources to have all corners covered right through the remainder of the season.
“Wayne is a quality performer and proven at international level, a top-notch bowler.”
Parnell also featured in the recently-concluded Global T20 Canada where his team Edmonton Royals were knocked out in the Eliminator.
The 28-year-old has made 111 international appearances for the Proteas since his debut in 2009, scalping a total of 150 wickets in those games.
