Tom Curran will miss England’s first T20I against India due to a side strain. Dawid Malan has been named as a replacement for Curran, who is expected to return to the squad for the other two T20Is of the three-match series.

Malan has scored 250 T20I runs for England in just five matches, at a staggering average of 50. He has belted four fifties in the shortest format of international cricket.

“I'm just delighted to be part of the squad,” Malan reportedly said. “[T20] gave me a great opportunity to show what I could do as a player and express myself. It's nice to be in and around it again and back around the England boys and hopefully I get an opportunity.”

England will go into the series after a successful campaign against Australia, where they secured a whitewash over the Kangaroos in the five-ODI series and also defeated the Aussies in the one-off T20I. On the other hand, India have whitewashed Ireland in the recently-concluded two-match T20I series.

India will also miss the services of Jasprit Bumrah and Washington Sundar as both have been sidelined for the T20I series due to injuries.

The first game of the 20-over series will be held on July 3. England will host India for another limited-over series, where they will take on the visitors in three ODIs. The two teams will also play five Tests following the ODI series.
