Naim Sheikh regrets his early national debut

Despite those challenges, Naim has bounced back strongly. Over the past few seasons, he has performed consistently in domestic cricket and has now made a mark in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). Playing for Khulna Tigers, he emerged as the highest run-scorer of the tournament, amassing 511 runs in 14 matches at an average of 42.58 and a strike rate of over 140.

While he had previously scored over 300 runs in two BPL seasons, his strike rate then hovered around 120. This season, his aggressive batting has once again brought him into the spotlight.
At this stage of his career, Naim admits that he might have been more effective if he had debuted for the national team later with more experience.
Speaking to Cricfrenzy, he said, "If I had the experience I have now when I first played for the national team, things would have been much better. I would have entered the team with a lot more maturity. But some things are beyond our control, and I don’t want to dwell on them. I just want to move forward."

Naim has often been labeled as a player who predominantly plays on the leg side. However, he sees no issue with that as long as he scores runs.
"If a batter scores 800-900 runs by playing well in three specific areas, then that’s good enough. Whether the runs come from the leg side or the off side doesn’t matter as long as I keep scoring," he said.
Expressing his commitment to continuous improvement, he added, "Many former cricketers have helped me along the way. You cannot succeed by playing only in one area. Those who say otherwise probably don’t understand cricket well. I am working on playing a more structured and disciplined game."
With his recent performances in BPL, Naim has once again proved his potential, and his focus remains firmly on making a strong comeback to the national team.
