While Michael Clarke retired from the Australian cricket team after losing the Ashes series in 2015, he has stated that he is willing to come back for the Baggies should be asked properly. Clarke is among the three Australian captains to have won the Ashes 5-0, when he won the 2013-14 Ashes by whitewashing England, but his downfall came in the very same contest in England.

He has, however, revealed that he could return to play for Australia and also lead them should he approached.

"If I was asked by right people, then I would think about my answer," Clarke said on Channel Nine's Sports Sunday.

The former Australia captain, who holds the record of having the second highest Test score—of 329*--by an Australian, was bemused by the fact that a youngster like Cameron Bancroft was asked to do the dirty work and also stated that he feels “sorry” for the current Aussie captain.

"Cameron Bancroft, this is his eighth Test match," Clarke said. "I can't believe if the leadership group has made a decision to do this that they've gone and got the young kid ... as a leader you can't ask somebody to do something you're not willing to do yourself.

"Steve Smith is such a lovely, lovely guy ... I really feel sorry for him.

He then added that Australia don’t need to cheat because their bowling attack is superior to every other team.

"We've got the best bowling attack in the world. We don't need to cheat to beat anybody. "

Clarke said it "would not be fair" if he calls for Smith to resign while also adding that "I would need to do a lot more ground work before I make that decision. But I can guarantee you this is not a good look."
