Steven Smith named player of the year

The best thing about performing well is that at one stage,
people recognize your work. For a long time now, Steven Smith’s consistent form
has been praised by the people in the cricket fraternity. And on Monday (12th
February, 2018), the Australia captain was officially recognized for his
brilliant performances in Tests.
The Rajasthan Royals’ captain has been awarded the Test
Player of the Year at Allan Border medal night in Melbourne. Nathan Lyon found himself
in second place after a great outing with the ball against India, England and
Bangladesh. He fell short by 6 points.

In the limited overs’ version, it was David Warner who took
the accolade as he was named as the Australian ODI Player of the Year, beating captain
Steven Smith and all-rounder Marcus Stoinis to the award.
The awards went to expected hands as both Steven Smith and David Warner were phenomenal in 2017. The former batted in 20 innings to score 1305 runs at an average of 76.76 in Tests. Meanwhile, the Sunrisers Hyderabad captain might have been in poor form this year, but he was sublime in the ODIs in 2017, scoring 691 runs in 13 innings at an average of 57.58.
