Dhananjaya set to replace Sri Lankan opener

Kusal Perera suffered a side strain during his innings of 49 in Sri Lanka's match against Zimbabwe on Sunday. Dhananjaya de Silva will now join the Sri Lanka ODI squad for the ongoing tri-nation Series in order to replace an injured Kusal.
Kusal will take no further part in the tournament due to his strain. He has been advised rest. Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) is yet to decide if the opening batsman will continue to stay with the team, and the decision is expected to be taken on Tuesday morning.
Sri Lanka’s limited-overs captain Angelo Mathews also suffered from a hamstring tightness in their first game against Zimbabwe. He sat out for the next two games against Bangladesh and Zimbabwe, respectively.

The all-rounder has returned to Sri Lanka and will miss the rest of the tournament. Mathews' participation in Sri Lanka’s Test series against Bangladesh also remains in doubt.
Dhananjaya had last played in an ODI in June 2017. His most recent international game was the Test against India in Delhi in December. He saved that Test with a century on the final day. That innings ended when he retired hurt with a thigh injury. The injury kept him out of the limited-overs leg of that India tour.
Dhananjaya has played 17 ODIs for his country and picked up 3 half-centuries in those matches. The all-rounder has been more impressive in the longest format, as he registered 3 centuries and 2 half centuries at an average of 42.3 in 11 Tests.
