Bayliss believes England duo deserve another chance

After their lackluster performances in the Ashes, many have
called for James Vince and Mark Stoneman to be dropped from the team. England
coach, Trevor Bayliss, however, believes that the duo deserve a couple of
chances at least.
"Personally I think people like Stoneman and Vince
probably get another couple of games to show us what they've got," he
said.
The duo weren’t entirely terrible as they got good starts, but
just couldn’t convert it to something big. And against one of the best bowling
line-ups in the world and in their home soil, it becomes a bit difficult to
judge the newcomers.
"I think at times during this series, against probably
close to the best bowling attack in the world in their home conditions, they
have shown they can play a bit. At the top level it is about making big scores
not fifties, twenties and thirties but they have shown enough that they should
get another couple of games."
Bayliss then went on to note the way these batters were
dismissed during the series. No-one can forget Starc’s unplayable ball against
Vince. Indeed, the duo were mostly intimated into playing bad shots, losing
their wickets in the process.

"Yes, we have all seen it," he said. "He
[Vince] has looked as comfortable as anyone in the runs he has scored here but
just makes a mistake and gets out. They have been similar each time and that
frustrates him more than any of us here. It's probably a little bit technical
but a lot of it is the mental side of it, knowing which balls to leave and when
to attack and when not to."
Speaking of Stoneman, Bayliss rejected the notion of the
batsman losing his confidence after witnessing the Aussie’s bodyline barrage.
"Not outwardly - it didn't seem to affect him around
the squad or practice," Bayliss said.
The coach acknowledged that the duo and Dawid Malan were England’s
best performers with the bat and “deserve another opportunity.”
"Both those guys in the first three games with Dawid
Malan were probably our best-performing batters. Whether it was the pressure
and the longevity of five Test matches pretty close to each other or whether
there was a fatigue and they dropped off in the last couple of games, it being
their first big five match series
"So I think they have done enough without anyone really pushing them from behind. They probably deserve another opportunity."
