Short plays a long innings to give Hobart first win


Today in the 13th encounter of the Big Bash League, Hobart Hurricane defeated Sydney Thunder by 9 runs. The face-off between the two had resulted in a 57-run win for Sydney Thunder two days back.
Winning the toss, Sydney decided to bowl first. Hurricanes did not win any of their previous two matches in the tournament. They registered a total of 189 runs losing 3 wickets.
Hobart's opener Alex Doolan was out by Gurinder Sandhu on 5 runs. Matthew Wade posted 27 runs before leaving the pitch as he was dismissed by Fawad Ahmed.
Another opener, D'Arcy Short, played a magnificent innings of 97. He was picked up by Watson and was awarded the Man of the Match after the game. Short built a 3rd -wicket 104-run partnership with Ben McDermott. Ben remained unbeaten on 49 runs.

While chasing the big target, Kurtis Patterson and Jos Buttler gave Sydney a good start. Kurtis Patterson got run out scoring 36 runs. Thunder's skipper Shane Watson also played a sensible innings of 36 runs before returning to the pavilion.
Cameron Boyce was on a hat-trick after scalping the wickets of Watson and Callum Ferguson. However, Boyce missed his hat-trick but those wickets led to a collapse in Sydney's batting line-up.
No other batsman could score much runs, as a result, the team fell 9 runs short of the target. Sydney scored 180 runs losing 8 wickets. Jos Buttler played a quick-fire innings of 81 runs facing 43 balls but got run out in the end and failed to help Sydney gain the winning points.
Both Jofra Archer and Cameron Boyce took a brace while Tymal Mills and Daniel Christian bagged a wicket each.
Sydney Thunder will take on Adelaide Strikers in a home-match on 7th January. Hobart will also face Strikers on 4th instant in Hobart.
