Joe Root heaps praise on Barmy Army

England have had to endure a difficult outing in Australia in this Ashes series. After all, losing the first three Tests in a row is never a
good thing for any team. And when it comes to the Ashes, there is a matter of
pride.
However, even amidst the rut, the Barmy Army never let their team down. They were more of a threat to the Aussies than the English players
themselves. And captain Joe Root was full of praise for the famous supporter’s
group of the Three Lions.
“They’ve been absolutely unbelievable throughout the whole
trip, but this week in particular," Root told BT Sport.
“There’s no doubt they’re the best fans in the world.”
Root then enthused the diligence of the fans in traveling
around the world and showing immense support for the team even when they were
failing.
“They have travelled over here and seen some tough games
over the course of this tour and they are still there supporting us all the
way.

“They have been unbelievable and the players appreciate it
so much."
Despite batting so brilliantly, England couldn’t win the fourth Test after a brilliant innings from Steven Smith, who reached the 3-figures yet again, stood in the way. And Root expressed his frustration for not being able to win.
“It’s obviously frustrating not to win the game but it’s a
very flat wicket and it was very hard for the bowlers out there,” Root added.
He, however, acknowledged the fascinating batting of Steven
Smith and also the flatness of the track, a pitch where there was absolutely
nothing for the bowlers.
“Steve played very well and was backed up by Mitchell Marsh.
Fair play to them. they played well.
“It’s as flat a wicket as you will ever see, if you played
on that for another four days I think it would be the same.
“We go to Sydney and we’ve still got a goal of winning that
game and ending the tour on a high.”
Finally, the England skipper concluded by stating that their
tour has been disappointing and that a lot of players came down in Melbourne
with a point to prove.
‘There was obviously a lot of disappointment,’ Root said.
‘We know we underperformed, a lot of guys had points to prove and you saw that
out in the middle.’
