He made his first-class debut in 2019 and was part of Balochistan's squad for the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy. The left-arm fast bowler, who bats right-handed, also participated in the National T20 Cup the same year.

Akif's PSL journey began in 2020 with Islamabad United, followed by stints with Lahore Qalandars and Karachi Kings. In 2021, he represented Pakistan Shaheens on their tour of Sri Lanka.
With his inclusion in the squad, Akif Javed is now in contention to make his One-Day International (ODI) debut for Pakistan.
