Sri Lanka name squad for Australia series
Sri Lanka have announced an 18-man strong squad, ICC
Dhananjaya de Silva, Kamindu Mendis, and Pathum Nissanka have been named in Sri Lanka's extended squad for the upcoming two-Test series, despite all three facing injury concerns leading up to the home matches against the reigning World Test Champions.
Steve Smith suffers elbow injury ahead of Sri Lanka series
19 Jan 25Nissanka, dealing with a persistent groin injury, is the least likely of the trio to play. To address potential absences, the selectors have included 18 players in the squad, providing ample cover with just five days until the first Test.
Uncapped players Lahiru Udara and Sonal Dinusha are in line for potential Test debuts. Both matches of the Warne-Murali Test Series will take place in Galle, marking the conclusion of the qualification phase for the ICC World Test Championship 2023-25. Australia has already secured their place in the final against South Africa in June.
Sri Lanka, currently fifth in the standings—just ahead of England—has an opportunity to overtake New Zealand and possibly even India with a strong performance in the series.
Australia to play two ODIs during Sri Lanka tour
15 Jan 25The visiting Australian side will be without captain Pat Cummins due to an ankle injury. However, they will be led by stand-in skipper Steve Smith, who has recovered from an elbow injury sustained during the Big Bash and is available for both the Sri Lanka series and the upcoming Champions Trophy campaign.
