New Zealand announce Champions Trophy squad
Mitchell Santner to lead the squad
This marks the first major ICC event for new white-ball captain Mitchell Santner, following his successful leadership in the ODI and T20I series against Sri Lanka at home.
The squad includes pace bowlers Will O’Rourke, Ben Sears, and Nathan Smith, all set to make their debut in a senior ICC tournament. Santner, the team’s primary spinner, will be supported by all-rounders Michael Bracewell, Glenn Phillips, and Rachin Ravindra.
Veterans Kane Williamson and Tom Latham bring crucial experience to the team, with Latham also taking up wicketkeeping duties. Notably, Santner, Williamson, and Latham were part of New Zealand’s squad in the 2017 Champions Trophy, while Williamson also participated in the 2013 edition.
Matt Henry will lead the pace attack alongside experienced campaigner Lockie Ferguson, who is preparing for his fifth ICC event after contributing significantly to the last two ICC ODI and T20I World Cups.
Jacob Duffy has been named as a reserve player and may step in if Ferguson becomes unavailable due to franchise cricket commitments.
