The Dhaka Capitals opener smashed an unbeaten 125 off 55 balls, leading his team to a record-breaking total of 254/1 against Durbar Rajshahi in Sylhet.
“Today was my day.” Litton said with a performances like this, he’s ensuring that his exclusion from the Champions Trophy squad remains a hot topic in Bangladeshi cricket.
Litton’s knock, laced with 10 fours and 9 sixes, was complemented by Tanzid Tamim’s 108 off 64 balls, as the duo forged a monumental 241-run opening stand—the highest partnership in BPL history.
Dhaka’s total not only set a new BPL record for the highest team score but also paved the way for a resounding 149-run victory, the largest margin in the tournament’s history.
Despite his explosive performance, Litton remained composed during the post-match press conference. When asked if his century was fueled by the frustration of being dropped, he dismissed the notion, stating,
“This wasn’t about proving a point. The selectors made their decision based on my recent performances, and I respect that. I wasn’t delivering in ODIs, and that’s why I wasn’t picked.”
Litton acknowledged his recent struggles, particularly in ODIs, where he failed to score a fifty since the World Cup and endured a string of low scores.
However, he refrained from criticizing the selectors, adding, “It’s an open secret why I wasn’t included. My performance wasn’t up to the mark, and the media has covered it extensively.”
While Litton admitted to being disappointed with his ODI form, he emphasized the importance of moving forward. “Today is already in the past,” he said. “I played a good innings, but in the next match, I’ll have to start from zero again. My focus is on performing consistently, not dwelling on what’s beyond my control.”
When asked about the possibility of being recalled to the Champions Trophy squad, Litton remained diplomatic.
“It’s entirely up to the selectors. If they feel I’ve earned my place through performances like this, they might reconsider. But my job is to perform, and that’s where my focus lies.”
