England wicket-keeper batsman Jos Buttler feels that this unexpected break due to the coronavirus-enforced shutdown cricketers got chance to regain their energy which might come in handy to extend their careers by a few years.

The right-handed batsman last played against Sri Lanka in March which was a warm-up before the novel coronavirus pandemic halted sporting activities all over the world.

The England and Wales Cricket Board [ECB] extended their suspension of all kind of professional game in the country till July 1 and Buttler believes that the extended break might prove beneficial for the players in the long run.

“I think maybe in years to come we’ll be looking back at the benefits. It’s a strange time and tough on families and people across the world,” Buttler told to British media.

“I hope we never experience it again, but to have a complete break — both physically and mentally — will hopefully add some more years to come to our careers. Potentially, it could have a benefit on us as players,” he added.

Britain has the record death toll in Europe due to the outbreak which is over 32,000 fatalities, however, the government are thinking to resume the elite sport from June 1 after considering the situation.

Earlier, ECB said that their players are going to return to individual training in the coming weeks and Buttler,29, admitted that he has some mixed feelings about getting back on the field.

“It’s a bit of everything — nerves, excitement and apprehension — but I think it’s a positive step for cricket for players to train,” Buttler, who has played 41 Tests for England, said.

“As a player, you feel like you’ve had a nice rest and really enjoyed it, it’s been good to have the break and are hopefully feeling refreshed for some cricket,” he added.

ECB is hoping to host the three-match Test series against West Indies in July, possibly behind closed doors and at ‘bio-secure’ venues.
