Bangladesh A’s abysmal performance against visiting Afghanistan A continued as they conceded a four-wicket defeat in their second match at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong on Sunday.

It was their second straight defeat to their Afghans counterpart, having been thrashed at the hands of them by a shameful 10-wicket and thereby trailed the five-match series by 2-0.

Formed with mostly the national players, the Bangladesh A piled up 278-9 in 50 overs but Afghanistan A comfortably chased down the target, making 281-6 in 49.1 overs.

Opener Ibrahim Zadran led the victory with 149 ball-127, smashing seven sixes and as many fours. He in fact single-handedly drove the side to the victory when the next best of the Afghans was 36 not out of Sharafuddin Ashraf.

Usman Ghani made 26 while Karim Janat chipped-in-with 24.

No Bangladeshi bowlers however could make any impact on the Afghans batsman. Shafiul Islam was the highest wicket-taker with 2-59 while Abu Jayed, Abu Hiader Rony and Sabbir Rahman took one wicket apiece.

After being sent to bat first, most of the Bangladeshi top order got the start but couldn’t carry on.

Mohammad Mithun, the member of Bangladesh’s squad in ODI series against Sri Lanka, scored highest with 85 off 94, hitting five fours and four sixes. Mohammad Naim scored 49 while skipper Imrul Kayes made 40.

Sabbir Rahman was the other notable scorer with 35.

Karim Janat and Fazal Niazai claimed three wickets apiece for Afghanistan A.
