Bangladesh A team’s performance in the just concluded T20 series against Ireland A indicates players in the pipeline are on the right track, said chief selector Minhajul Abedin.

The Ireland Wolves gave their visiting counterpart a hard time at their own den in both the one-day and T20 series.

Though they had drawn the series in the one-day format, Bangladesh A team completed their recent T20 assignment with a convincing 2-1 victory in the T20 series.

It was more noteworthy due to the way they bounced back well to win the third match and eventually emerge victorious in the three match series, after having lost the second unofficial T20 match.

While the Irish had the opportunity to exploit the home condition it was not the same case for the second string national team as on several instances weather conditions made the situation more turbulent for Bangladesh.

“It is a difficult condition in Ireland. So considering that I think our A team performed really well and also considering the fact that the cricketing culture in Ireland has changed since they obtained Test status,’’ said Minhajul.

“We saw Ireland’s improvement in one-day series, the series had finished 2-2. So it was a very competitive tour and our cricketers were able to gain experience there,’’ he said.

According to Minhajul this series presented the platform for the likes of Soumya Sarkar and Mohammed Saifuddin with an opportunity to present their case in front of the national selectors.

Sarkar, who was in fact the T20 captain of the touring side, seemed to have gotten over the lean patch to some extent with his batting performance (115 runs).

Saifuddin also impressed everyone by claiming four wickets in the final T20 match that took his overall tally to nine wickets in the 20-over series.

“Soumya played well in T20, Mithun played well, Afif was there. Al Amin caught the attention with his performance,” said Minhajul.

“Overall we got the feedback which we were looking forward to and hope we will be able to provide cricketers for the national team from here. All players in the A team has opportunity to make it into the national team but this will depend on what is needed by the national team,” he said.

“Continuous programs of A Team will help us recover from the lack of back-up players for the national team.” he added.
