Khaled Mahmud set to become Bangladesh coach

This perhaps doesn’t come as much of a surprise as Khaled Mahmud Sujon is set to be named as the interim coach of the Bangladesh cricket team. After much fanfare and coach interviews, the Bangladesh Cricket Board have, so far, hit blanks in their hunt for a new coach as none of them could really convince the Tigers.

As a result, Khaled Mahmud will be named as the coach of the country's cricket team. The former Bangladesh captain is already the director of the team and also holds the unofficial third-member’s post as the selector of the team. And now, he is going to be burdened with more responsibility.

The former all-rounder spoke to the media on Monday, where he admitted that current Sri Lanka and former Bangladesh coach, Chandika Hathurusingha, is wary of the threats and weaknesses of the Tigers, which is why it is imperative for the team to work according to instructions.

“He (Hathurusingha) of course knows the ins and outs of the current team, given that he worked for around three and a half years. So we will need to plan ourselves keeping this fact in mind.

“We will need good execution as, at the end of the day, it is a game of bat and ball. We have enough players to execute our plans in the middle. We will try and work to get a good start to the new year,” said Mahmud to the media Monday.

Mahmud then went on to state that his main task is to serve the country’s cricket team regardless of whether he welcomes the responsibilities with joy or sorrow. His main target, according to him, is to help the team in anyway that he can.

“I always try my best to perform a job given to me by the board. It actually is not important for me if I like the role or not. The chief point here is that I work for the national team and an opportunity is there for me,” said Mahmud.

“I look forward to giving my best with whatever knowledge I have on the game and on the coaching field,” he added.
