Tamim Iqbal with BPL trophy before Final, Cricfrenzy
As another season of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) reaches its climax, Tamim Iqbal has confirmed his intention to continue playing in the tournament next year. This decision comes as no surprise, given that while he has retired from international cricket, he remains active in domestic competitions.

Apart from the BPL, Tamim is also likely to play in the upcoming Dhaka Premier League and has expressed interest in participating in various Legends Leagues, which feature former international cricketers. Despite stepping away from the Bangladesh national team, Tamim has no immediate plans to leave professional cricket.

However, speculation remains that he may soon transition into a leadership or administrative role within the sport.

Since Tamim has retired from international cricket, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has decided to officially honor him for his contributions to the national team. With no home international matches scheduled in the near future, the BCB has chosen the BPL final as the occasion for his farewell tribute.

Ahead of the BPL final’s post-match award ceremony, Tamim will be presented with a farewell memento at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur. The final, which takes place on Friday, features Fortune Barishal, captained by Tamim, against Chittagong Kings.

The discussion about Tamim’s future first gained momentum during the Sylhet phase of the BPL, particularly regarding his potential inclusion in Bangladesh’s 2025 Champions Trophy squad.

During that period, national selectors sought his opinion, to which Tamim responded by confirming that he would no longer play for the national team.

While selectors urged him to reconsider, Tamim took two days to reflect before making his decision official. On January 10, he announced his retirement from international cricket via a post on his verified Facebook page.
