Two teams players shake hands after third ODI
The defeat not only cost the Tigresses the three-match series 2-1 but also ended their hopes of securing direct qualification for the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup 2025.
Tigress captain aims to confirm World Cup spot with WI series win
11 Jan 25After suffering a heavy nine-wicket loss in the series opener, Bangladesh bounced back with a commanding 60-run victory in the second ODI, marking their first-ever win against the West Indies.
However, they needed another victory in the final match to clinch their maiden ODI series against the Windies and secure the last automatic qualification spot for the World Cup.
Bangladesh ended the ICC Women's Championship in seventh place with 21 points, just behind New Zealand, who edged ahead due to a superior net run rate. New Zealand joins hosts India, Australia, England, South Africa, and Sri Lanka in earning direct qualification for the World Cup in India later this year.
As a result, Bangladesh will now compete in the World Cup qualifiers alongside West Indies, Ireland, Pakistan, Scotland, and Thailand, where the top two teams will advance to the main tournament.
Opting to bat first on Friday, Bangladesh struggled and were bowled out for a mere 118 runs in 43.5 overs. Sharmin Akter top-scored with 37 off 58 balls, while Sobhana Mostary and Fargana Hoque Pinky contributed 25 and 22 runs, respectively. Captain Nigar Sultana Joty managed only 11 runs off 29 deliveries.
Karishma Ramharack was the standout bowler for the hosts, taking four wickets for just 12 runs in 6.5 overs.
Chasing the modest target, the West Indies cruised to victory in just 27.3 overs. Skipper Hayley Matthews and Qiana Joseph added 45 runs for the opening wicket before Matthews was dismissed by Nahida Akter for 22 off 33 balls in the 12th over.
Marufa Akter removed Qiana Joseph for 39 in the 21st over, but unbeaten contributions from Shemaine Campbelle (25) and Deandra Dottin (33) ensured the hosts reached the target comfortably.
