After a stunning win in their opening match of the U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup, the junior Tigresses couldn’t carry the momentum into their second game, losing to Australia by 2 wickets in a low-scoring thriller. The game went down to the final over, but Bangladesh ultimately fell short.

Batting first, Bangladesh struggled to build a competitive total, managing only 91 runs for 9 wickets in their 20 overs. Afia Asima’s fighting knock of 29 off 34 balls was the only notable contribution, as the rest of the batting lineup failed to deliver.

Chasing the modest target, Australia got off to a flying start, putting up 26 runs in the first three overs. Lucy and opener Kate Pell added another 50 runs for the second wicket. However, Hamilton’s dismissal at 67 marked a turning point in the game.

Bangladesh’s bowlers staged a remarkable comeback, reducing Australia from a comfortable position to a precarious one. Jannatul Mawa shone with the ball, claiming 3 wickets, while Nishita Akter, Habiba Islam, and Anisa Akter bowled tight spells to keep the pressure on.

Heading into the final over, Australia needed just 1 run with 2 wickets in hand. Despite Bangladesh’s spirited fight, Australia secured the winning run through a leg-bye on the second ball, sealing the match with 4 balls to spare.

Although the defeat was disappointing, the Tigresses’ bowling performance and fighting spirit provided hope for the future. However, their batting struggles proved costly once again.

Bangladesh’s final group match in Group D is scheduled for Wednesday against Scotland. In their first match, Sumaiya Akter’s side had secured a 5-wicket win over Nepal.
