Bangladesh Cricket Board said that they are confident that they won’t go bankrupt despite the likely financial impact due to the coronavirus pandemic adding that they can survive for five years.

Like most other sports, all on-field activities in cricket have been suspended the world over due to the coronavirus pandemic and everybody can understand is that the commercial considerations will dictate planning in a post-pandemic world.

There has been huge financial concerns regarding cricket's probable absence over the subsequent six months and powerful boards will try to minimize losses from high-value media deals as they stand to make more money from cricket at home than from the share of ICC revenue

Times of India even ran a report with a headline: Covid effect: ICC member boards running 'serious risk' of financial bankruptcy and according to the report  other than India and to an extent England, the rest of the cricket world will be on a hand-to-mouth existence if this scenario continues.

TOI added that Bangladesh cricket, in any other case a sustainable property, will sit with no broadcaster and sponsors as soon as their current deal runs out by the end of April.

However, BCB chief executive begs to differ with the word bankruptcy and sounded confident to run for five years.

‘’There is nothing to get scared about it right now. BCB will be able to run for five years, I am not seeing anything confusion regarding this also. If we can manage the way we have done in the past, then it is not impossible,’’ BCB chief executive told reporters on Sunday.

‘’We do not agree with the word they have used 'bankruptcy'. There will obviously be a challenge. There will be a huge impact too but then again we will go bankrupt... I do not agree with it,’’ he said.

‘’We did not run the board in the past, also will not run in the future. There is no need to think much from now on. It will be too early to say what the board will do,’’ he said.

‘’We will take decision seeing where the situation drives us. No need to spread panic about what we will do or not do. The Asia Cup is still four months away,’’ he said adding that if the global economy fails it will be the same for India as well as for Bangladesh.

‘’If the global economy gets affected then it will be same for us and India. We are no different. So, depending on where the global economy goes, and how much of the budget will remain in the market. So you have to see what's in the market and what you will get. These will depend entirely on the economy. However, there will be an effect obviously,’’ he said.
