Sylhet Thunder captain Mosaddek Hossain Saikat said his side’s lack of capability to step ahead with the rhythm of Mohammad Mithun cost them the game against Chattogram Challengers in the opening game of the Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League (BBPL).

Mithun struck his career-best 48 ball-84 not, which was considered to be one of the best T20 knock played by any Bangladeshi batsman, helped Sylhet compile 162-4. The score could have been bigger had the other batsman could match with the strike rate of Mithun (175). Sylhet failed to do so which resulted in their five-wicket defeat at the end.

Apart from Johnson Charles who made 35 off 23, no other batsmen of Sylhet could make runs at a strike rate over 100. This is the arena in which Sylhet fell apart.

“I think we were in good position in powerplay but then fell in problem after losing two wickets,” Mosaddek said after the match on Wednesday.

“The way Mithun played his game, I think, there could be a good partnership had we can give him the support. After his innings, our score should be around 170-175. So we were actually short of 10/15 runs. If we could amass those runs, things could have been different.”

Mosaddek said he was excited to captain the side but at the end it turned out to be despair after little mistakes cost them the game.

“I was excited to captain the side but out attention was towards the game. Everything was going right. However may be we have some little mistakes and we lag behind.”

When the nature of the wicket earlier in BPL in the past years was criticized due to produce low scoring affair, this year, it didn’t give any scope to make complain just in the very beginning.

“Overall wicket was pretty good,” Mosaddek said. “ We have made 160 odd runs and that was chased. I think wicket was good.”
