Opener Imrul Kayes vowed to play well in the upcoming National Cricket League (NCL) in a bid to regain his place in the national team.

The opener who doesn’t don the Bangladesh’s jersey in any format of cricket after 2018 more specifically targeted Bangladesh’s two-match Test series in India.

The selectors appeared not so interest in the opener who is now 32 years old but still his name came to the fore time and again. Basically the performance of the young openers was so poor that the selectors had to turn their attention to Kayes. He may get the chance to play in this year when Bangladesh played several Test matches at home and away but he had to keep him away from cricket to be with his ailing son.

He had to take his son to the abroad for the treatment as he was suffering from dengue fever and other complications. Now as his son is completely okay, Kayes got his time to turn his attention to cricket.

“When you are mentally ill, you can’t be physically fit. The people who have gone through this problem only can understand the situation I was going through,” he said here on Wednesday.

“After the treatment of my son in Singapore, he again became sick and then again I had to go to Singapore. Now the doctors said he is okay so hopefully there will be no problem.”

“As he is now okay, I turned my focus to cricket. I will try to give my 100 per cent to get back to cricket. Everyone hopes to play for national team and our hopes keep our dream alive. I am waiting for my chance. If I get any opportunity, I will try to grab it with both hands. And I had got a chance to come back into the team but unfortunately my son was sick during that period. Hopefully I will get another chance,” he opined.

And Kayes knows that the NCL is the best platform for him to make his case stronger. But at the same time he knows that the competition to regain the place in the national team is intense. At the moment, like Imrul Kayes, some other players also are trying to get back to the national team by playing well with Bangladesh A team and others level of cricket.

“I personally will be focused more on my job and will try to give my best in the NCL. Those who are playing with A team, for them it’s a good opportunity as they get such sort of chance ahead of the Test series,” he opined.

Kayes said that his main challenge is to keep up his fitness level.

“Fitness Test is nothing new for us but before any camp starts, we give fitness tests to make us available in the team. To get the required mark in beep test is tougher for those who are away from the national team. But it is good for Bangladesh cricket as it will enhance the competition. It will also inspire the senior players to keep them fit. Personally I will also try to keep up my fitness level.”
