Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is waiting for Zimbabwe Cricket Board’s green signal about their participation in a tri-nation series comprising Afghanistan in September as that can help them give a fitting farewell to their ODI’s skipper Mashrafee bin Mortaza.
Since the recently concluded World Cup, BCB is trying to find a suitable time to bid farewell to Mashrafe whose retirement talks seemed to be the highlight in the recent past considering his below par performance in the global event.
Mashrafe said that he will think about his farewell match after participating in Sri Lanka series but last minute injury forced him to skip the series against Sri Lanka.
Bangladesh team will have busy days ahead as they will play T20Is and Tests against India in November and then BPL is set to start from December. After BPL, Tigers will head to Pakistan to play Test and T20 series.

BCB is planning to host a tri-nation series in September to bid farewell to the captain, though, Afghanistan’s participation are almost certain in the series, BCB is now waiting for Zimbabwe board for their confirmation.
As the Zimbabwe board is under restriction from ICC to participate in any format of international cricket so there are some uncertainties for the African team to participate in the tri-nation series. But the African cricket playing nation will have no binding if they overcome their financial issue to participate in the tri-nation series as the series will be out of ICC’s Featured Tour Program, confirmed by BCB Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Nizamuddin Chowdhury.
Nizam said that, Zimbabwe board has asked for some extra time for their confirmation to participate in the tri-nation series.
“We have contacted with Zimbabwe board on Wednesday. They said they will need some time to confirm their participation in the tri nation T20 series,” Nizam told the reporters.
BCB is planning to include ODI matches after the tri-nation T20 series if the Zimbabwe cricket team take part in tournament. And because Zimbabwe’s participation in the series is yet to affirm, Mashrafe’s farewell match is also hanging on that decision.
“We will work on his farewell match. But we are waiting to confirm Zimbabwe’s participation before that. As soon as they confirm, we will start working on Mashrafe farewell match,” told BCB CEO Nizam.
“This T20 tri nation series is not included in ICC’s Featured Tour Programs (FTP). So if we want, we can add some extra match and those matches could be ODIs after the T20Is” NIzam added.
Mashrafe played his debut Test match against Zimbabwe in 2001 November 8. Now BCB is trying to call Zimbabwe cricket team so that the skipper can retire from international cricket playing against the same opponent.
