BCB cricket operations in-charge Shahriar Nafees said discussions between the two boards were progressing positively, raising hopes that Bangladesh’s return to England after nearly 17 years could feature more than one match.
“We are having positive discussions with the ECB. If we can add another match alongside the Test, it would make the tour even more memorable.
They are looking at the matter quite positively. We cannot confirm anything until it is officially finalised, but we are hopeful that the tour will not be limited to just one Test,” Nafees said.
According to the announced schedule, Bangladesh will face England in a one-off Test at Lord’s from May 28 to June 1, 2027.
The match will mark Bangladesh’s return to the iconic venue after their last Test there in 2010.
England won that match by five wickets, with Shahadat Hossain and Tamim Iqbal earning places on the Lord’s Honours Board.
The BCB is also focusing on preparations for the 2027 ODI World Cup.
Bangladesh A and the High Performance (HP) teams have already toured South Africa, and the national team is also scheduled to visit the country, giving players from three levels of the Bangladesh setup valuable exposure to South African conditions ahead of the global tournament.
“We recently completed the A-team tour with the World Cup in mind. Our HP team also went there, and now the national team is heading to South Africa.
Having around 60 players from three different levels play in South African conditions in the year before a global tournament will certainly be an added advantage,” Nafees said.
Meanwhile, discussions over the next Future Tours Programme (FTP) are expected to begin soon.
Nafees expressed optimism that Bangladesh would secure a favourable international schedule, pointing to the team’s busy calendar over the past four years and its recent performances.
“FTP discussions will begin very soon. Over the last four years, Bangladesh were the fourth-most active team in terms of days spent playing cricket. We hope to put together a good schedule in line with the board’s objectives for the next FTP. Given Bangladesh’s current performances, other teams are also interested in playing against us,” he said.
