The 26-year-old pacer finished with 6/55, his best figures in Test cricket, as Bangladesh bowled Australia out for 198. The performance also made Hasan the first Bangladesh bowler to claim a Test five-wicket haul on Australian soil.
Hasan acknowledged the challenge of bowling against one of the world’s leading Test sides but said Bangladesh’s preparation gave the attack confidence to exploit the conditions.
“Alhamdulillah, bowling in such a challenging moment against one of the best teams in the world is very challenging. We practised a lot and I would say our preparation was very good. We had a lot of time to practise and I think the bowlers prepared really well. You could see that in the match,” Hasan said.
Hasan also highlighted the contributions of Taskin Ahmed and Ebadot Hossain, who kept the pressure on Australia from the opposite end.
“They supported me very well. Especially Taskin and Ebadot bowled really well,” he said.
Hasan made an early impact by dismissing Jake Weatherald and Travis Head before returning later in the innings to remove Steve Smith for 71. Nathan Lyon was his sixth and final victim as Australia were dismissed for a modest total.
While all six wickets carried significance for Hasan, Smith’s dismissal was particularly satisfying.
“All the wickets are special to me because you cannot get five wickets without taking all five,” Hasan said. “Especially Smith’s wicket. My instinct was telling me that he was going to try something, so I bowled the bouncer.”
Hasan revealed that his impressive spell also earned praise from a couple of Australian players during the innings.
“During the match, Travis Head said ‘good bowling’ and Nathan Lyon asked me how many five-wicket hauls I had,” he said.
His recent county cricket experience in England also played a role in his success. Hasan took 6/69 against Lancashire at Blackpool on his County Championship debut for Kent and finished the match with nine wickets.
“I find the conditions in Australia and England very similar,” Hasan said. “I got six wickets in England as well in Blackpool, so I got that experience and brought it here, bowling with a bit of confidence.”
The six-for means Hasan has now taken Test five-wicket hauls in Pakistan, India and Australia, underlining his growing reputation as a bowler capable of performing in different conditions.
