Ian Bishop to miss Nahid Rana's pace in Australian conditions

Nahid had enjoyed a remarkable 2026, starring across Tests, ODIs and franchise cricket. His express pace against Pakistan, New Zealand and Australia at home established him as one of Bangladesh's most exciting fast bowlers and earned him global recognition.

With Bangladesh preparing for their maiden Test series in Australia, expectations were high that the 23-year-old would play a key role on the country's fast, bouncy pitches.

However, those hopes were dashed after Nahid suffered an injury during the T20I series against Zimbabwe, forcing him out of the tour. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has since named its squad for the opening Test without the speedster.

Like many cricket fans, Bishop had been eager to see Nahid test himself in Australian conditions.

Posting on his official X account, Bishop wrote: "Sad for Nahid Rana. Like so many cricket lovers, I was eagerly looking forward to seeing him bowl in Australian conditions.”

Nahid has taken 27 wickets in 10 ODIs and 11 wickets in two Tests so far in 2026, making him one of Bangladesh's standout performers this year. His recent form and ability to generate genuine pace had made him a major weapon heading into the historic series.

In his absence, Bangladesh are expected to rely on an experienced pace attack featuring Taskin Ahmed, Hasan Mahmud and Ebadot Hossain as they look to challenge Australia in unfamiliar conditions.
