Bangladesh bounced back emphatically to defeat New Zealand by six wickets in the second ODI in Mirpur, leveling the three-match series 1-1 with a dominant all-round performance.

The victory was set up by a sensational spell from Nahid Rana, who produced a match-winning five-wicket haul to bundle New Zealand out for 198 in 48.4 overs.

The young pacer combined pace and control brilliantly, removing key batters including Henry Nicholls, Will Young and Nick Kelly, finishing with outstanding figures of 5 for 32.

He was well supported by Shoriful Islam, who claimed two wickets, while contributions from Taskin Ahmed, Soumya Sarkar and Rishad Hossain ensured the visitors never built sustained momentum despite Kelly’s fighting 83.

Chasing a modest 199, Bangladesh made a brisk start through Tanzid Hasan, who played an aggressive knock of 76 off 58 balls, striking 10 fours and four sixes to put the hosts firmly in control.

After early setbacks, Najmul Hossain Shanto anchored the innings with a composed 50 before retiring hurt.

Towhid Hridoy then ensured there were no late hiccups, remaining unbeaten on 30, while captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz stayed till the end as Bangladesh comfortably reached 199/4 in just 35.3 overs with 87 balls to spare.

For New Zealand, Jayden Lennox picked up two wickets, but the total proved far from enough on a good batting surface.
