Bangladesh captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz has indicated that the team will continue to favour sporting wickets for the upcoming ODI series against New Zealand, moving away from the spin-heavy surfaces that drew attention last year.

Bangladesh had come under the spotlight in October for preparing spin-dominant tracks against the West Indies cricket team.

However, in their most recent series against Pakistan national cricket team, they opted for more balanced pitches and secured a 2-1 series victory.

Speaking ahead of the first ODI in Mirpur, Miraz confirmed the hosts’ intention to stick with that approach.

“We played on very good wickets in the Pakistan series. We will try to play on similar wickets in this series as well,” he said.

Reflecting on the Pakistan series, Miraz pointed out that results ultimately depended on performance rather than pitch conditions.

“It all comes down to how you perform. Even on true wickets, we saw collapses, Pakistan were bowled out for 114 in one match, and we were also dismissed for 114 in another. But the wickets were still good,” he explained.

He further emphasized the importance of mindset and adaptability. “Cricketers need to adjust to the conditions. It’s largely about mentality and how well you prepare,” he added.

The first ODI between Bangladesh and New Zealand is set to begin at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Friday at 11:00 AM local time.
